Why Volunteer with AmeriCorps Seniors?

Requirements for AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers

In order to join AmeriCorps Seniors, the only requirement is that you must be at least 55 years of age or older. There are no other requirements related to income, experience, education, or level of ability.

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are prohibited from engaging in certain activities while representing AmeriCorps Seniors in any capacity:

  • Political activities, including electoral activities, voter registration, voter transportation to polls, or efforts to influence legislation

  • Religious activities, including religious instruction, conducting worship services, or proselytizing

  • Activities related to labor or anti-labor organizations

  • Any activities which would otherwise be performed by an employed worker, or would supplant the hiring of or result in the displacement of employed workers

  • RSVP will match you with a volunteer position best suited to your interests, skills, experience, and level of ability. 

  • All AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are covered by supplemental accident, personal liability, and excess automotive insurance while serving

  • Ongoing recognition and support, as well as access to additional volunteer opportunities

  • (Varies by project) Your RSVP project may provide additional benefits, including:

    • Reimbursement for transportation costs​

    • Meals or meal reimbursements

    • Uniforms or reimbursements for uniforms
